Introduction: In order to develop targeted programs to promote the country's scientific principles, it is necessary to measure scientific production. So, the present research is an attempt to describe the publication trends of proteomics scientific document based on Web of Science reports.
Materials & methods: The population under study was composed of 10018 documents on proteomics in Asian countries based on Web of Science reports and for analyzing data, Microsoft Excel was used. The analysis was conducted in two stages. The first stage was the review of the year of publication, document type, subject, language, author, affiliation and country. The second stage was citation analysis.
Findings: With a negligible amount of fluctuation, the number of publications on proteomics has increased steadily over the years, with the greatest number in 2013. The analysis of data based on document types indicated that, of 10018 documents, 8223 were articles (82.08%). 9751 documents (97.33%) were published in English .The People's Republic of China with 4315 documents (43.17%), Japan with 1891 documents (18.87%) were the most prolific countries. Thematically, the greatest number of documents was produced in Biochemistry Molecular with 4586 documents (45.77%). Citation analysis showed that H-index for total documents is 120 and average citations per item are 13.32. The most cited paper belongs to Matsuoka and colleagues who have been received 1175 citation.
Discussion & conclusions: This study could determine the growth of qualitative and quantitative proteomics field production. Survey on proteomics documents clarifies that the self-citation rate is high in this area.
