Abstract

Introduction: Providing convenient social services based on population needs is one of the important strategies of psychological promotion and prevention of psycho-social disorders since the families are involved with a wide range of economic, psycho, social, educational and occupational prob-lems. Availability of psychological consul-ting services in these contexts is of great importance. The main aims of the present study were determining demographic characteristics trend and assessing the status of psychological disorders and psycho-social problems in the referred clients to counseling centers of Social Welfare Organization during the years 1381 to 1388. Materials & Methods: This study was an analytical cross sectional research. The data was based on available information in the files of referred subjects to the counseling centers of Social Welfare Organization during 1381 to 1388 which gathered via interviewing and filling a psychological questionnaire. In general, 21375 subjects were collected using a systematic sampling technique. Findings: Our findings revealed that main clients of these counseling centers during 1381 to 1388 were female, married, 21-30 years age groups. Among psychological problems, the mood disorders and anxiety as well as disorders in children were more prevalent. Among the psycho-social problems, the interpersonal problem had the highest proportion in the referrals to these centers. Discussion & Conclusion: Regarding the high prevalence of mood disorders, anxiety and interpersonal problems in the referrals to the counseling centers of Social Welfare Organization, it is necessary to dedicate the professional services to identify and treatment of these disorders
