Abstract:   (19 Views)
Introduction:  Polycystic ovary syndrome can affect the sexual function of patients and reduce sexual satisfaction in them. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of mindfulness-based counseling on sexual satisfaction and sexual function in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.
Materials & Methods: This study is a randomized clinical trial that was performed on women with polycystic ovary syndrome aged 18 to 45 years, referred to six gynecologist offices in Isfahan. Women were randomly divided into intervention (n=27) and control (n=27) groups. The intervention group received 8 sessions of mindfulness-based counseling. Data collection tools included the FSFI and the Larson Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using independent t-tests, chi-square tests, and repeated measures tests in SPSS V.23. A significance level of P < 0.05 was considered.
Results: Before the intervention, the mean score of sexual function was 22.80 ± 1.34 in the intervention group and 23.17 ± 1.63 in the control group (P = 0.373). Eight and 12 weeks after the intervention, this score was 27.37 ± 1.61 and 26.73 ± 1.59 in the intervention group and 22.31 ± 1.95 and 22.93 ± 2.24 in the control group, respectively. The mean score of sexual function in the intervention group in all dimensions except pain during intercourse was significantly improved (P < 0.0001). So, the mean score of sexual satisfaction in the intervention group was significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.0001).
Conclusion: Considering the effectiveness of mindfulness-based counseling in improving performance and promoting sexual satisfaction in women with polycystic ovary syndrome, the use of this method can be considered in medical centers.
