SARS-CoV-2 antibody response after BBIBP-CorV (Sinopharm) vaccination in pregnant women

Introduction:  Pregnant women are one of the high-risk groups for respiratory infections. Since pregnant women are not included in clinical trials of vaccines, there is a need to investigate the effectiveness of the vaccine and the response to the vaccine in this group in the real world. The aim of this study was to determine the IgG antibody titer against RBD SARS-CoV-2 after the second dose of Sinopharm/BBIBP-CorV vaccine in pregnant women.
Materials & Methods: Serum samples were collected from 140 pregnant women 30-60 days (1-2 months) after administering the second dose of the China Sinopharm vaccine from August 2021 to April 2022. IgG antibody titers against RBD were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
Results: Anti-RBD IgG antibodies were detected in 17% (24 out of 140) of the population studied.
Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that the antibody response to Sinopharm/BBIBP-CorV vaccine is low in pregnant women in Iran.
