Stability of Gd-porphyrins as a contrast agent of magnetic resonance imaging in mice
1
Abstract
Introduction: Gd-hematoporphyrin(Gd-H) was used along with human colorectal cancer cells (HT29/219) as a contrast agent in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to measure the stability of Gd-H in mice.
Materials & Methods: Human colorectal cancer cells (HT29/219) were injected in flank of 20 (four groups of five) mice. Three to four weeks after tumor implantations, when the tumor diameter was 3-5 mm, the mice were injected with Gd-H contrast agent. The animals were slaughtered at 7, 24 and 72 hours post injection, followed by removal of critical organs (liver, kidney) and the tumor. These organs were minced for MR imaging and UV-spect.
Findings: The biggest of T1 relaxation times of liver and kidney were found after 24 h and 72h, respectively. The most signal intensity in liver and kidney was revealed after 24h and 72h, respectively. The most concentration of Gd in tumor occurs 24h after the injection.
Conclusion: The data of T1 relaxation time, signal intensity and concentration of Gd showed that the stability of Gd-H is more than 72 hours after the injection in mice.

Impacts of sleeping disturbances in the last month of pregnancy on the length of labor and way of delivery in women referring to the health centers of Saghez , 2006
1
2
Abstract
Introduction: Pregnancy has a specific condition that can affect sleeping patterns. About 2/3 of pregnant women complain of their sleeping patterns as abnormal. Such disturbances in sleeping patterns, besides in physical and psychological side-affects in women, can affect the labor process such as the length of labor and type of delivery. Thus, analytic cohort study was conducted to determine the association between sleeping disturbances in the last month of pregnancy as well as the length of labor and type of delivery.
Materials & Methods: Method of sampling in this study was sequential and non-randomized. Women with the specifications of research units were selected for the study. 139 women (59 subject without disturbances and 85 ones with sleeping disturbances) were followed until delivery. The information was collected through filling in the questionnaires and using checklists of observation.
Findings: The results of this study indicated that the average first stage of labor length time in the group without a sleep disturbance was 66 minutes less than that of the group with disturbances. The average second stage of labor length in the group with disturbed patterns was 25 minutes shorter than the other group. Statistically, this difference was significant (P < 0/001). The average for the three stage labor length between the two groups was not significant (P > 0.05).The results also showed that the chance of cesarean section among the disturbed group was 2.7 times more than the other group (CI= 0/83 – 8/5 , RR = 2/7 ) . Using X2 test according to (P = 0/096) this difference was proved as significant, further more, sleeping disturbances are of no effect in increasing cesarean prevalence.
Conclusion: There, It is concluded that sleeping disturbance is associated with increasing the first and second stages of labor length, but has no influence on the 3rd stage labor length and the type of delivery

A study on the relation of sperm parameters and sperm origin on the outcome of cytoplasm sperm injection (ICSI) in infertile couples
1
Abstract
Introduction: Microscopic examination of semen is a mandatory procedure when conducting investigations on an infertile couple and the results of semen analysis influence the choice of treatment methodologically. Recent data indicate that sperm morphology assessed according to the Kruger criteria is classified according to the three predictive categories: excellent prognosis>14% normal morphology spermatozoa ,good prognosis 4-14% and poor prognosis 0.05).
Conclusion: It seems that sperm parameters and sperm origins can’t be regarded as reliable prognostic factors in foretelling successful pregnancies through ICSI procedure.

1
Abstract
Introduction: Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Is one of the most common factors which causes pericarditis following suffering from lung tuberculosis. To diagnose pericarditis caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis , methods like PPD test, culture and staining of pericardial fluid , biopsy of pericardial tissue and PCR of pericardial fluid are used. In this study, level of specific sensitivity of PPD test for diagnosis of pericardial tuberculosis has been evaluated.
Materials; Methods: 100 patients admitted at the academic hospitals of Shahid Behshti and Iman Khomaini medical universities underwent experimental observations for diagnosis of primary pericardial tuberculosis during 1981-4. First PPD test was done, then a sampling of pericardial fluid and biopsy of pericardial tissue were accomplished. The pericardial was used for fluid staining by Ziehl-Neelsen and culture on Leuin – Estein Jonson media. After fixation and H;E staining, the necessary studies continued to consider the cheesy granuloma and tuberculosis bacilli.
Findings: In this study, out of the 100 selected patients, 40 cases were diagnosed as suffering from pericardial tuberculosis by laboratory tests, all the cases were complaining of tuberculosis symptoms. Culture of pericardial fluid in 18 patients (45%), and pericardial biopsy in 18 ones (45%), staining of pericardial fluid in 9 patients (22.5%) and tuberculin cutanous test in 30 patients (75%) proved positive, while false negative cutanous tuberculin test in 10 patients (25%) and false positive results in (45%) of patients were significantly were achieved

Western blotting analysis of proteinantigens of Fusarium Solani
1
Abstract
Introduction: Western blotting pattern of somatic protein antigens extracted from fungi can be useful in identification of different species and strains, and also helps to find the infectious agent. This study was undertaken to determine the somatic protein antigens pattern extracted from Fusarium Solani.
Materials; Methods: The Fusarium Solani strains UAMH 7419 and UAMH 3317 used in our study to prepare the somatic protein antigens extracts from young mycelia were originally isolated from a patient and the environment in Canada, respectively. Determination of numbers and the protein antigen characteristics was carried out using sodium dodecy sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS- PAGE) and western blotting technique.
Findings :Analysis of western blotting patterns of somatic proteins from F. Solani UAMH 7419 and UAMH 3317 demonstrated 16 and 11 antigen bands, respectively. The molecular weights of protein antigens were between 14 to 100 KD.
Conclusion :The F. Solani strain UAMH 7419, isolated from the patient, showed more antigenic bands in western blotting than the F. Solani strain UAMH 3317 isolated from the environment.

An ultra structure study on the effects of nerve growth factor and insulin-like growth factor on rat peripheralnerve regeneration
1
2
Abstract
Introduction: Formation of myelin depends on maturation of the axonal cytoskeleton and mitochondria. Nerve growth factors and insulin-like growth factor can specifically play a role in their regulation.
Materials; Methods: This research is an experimental study. Forty eight male rats (200-250 g) were used. After axotomy, 1 cm segment of the sciatic nerve in rats was resected, then the gap was bridged by one of the four methods (polyvinylidene fluoride or PVDF + nerve growth factor + insulin growth factor -1, autograft, sham and control). Sciatic nerve was studied by electron microscope after 4 and 12 weeks of implantation.
Findings: After 4 weeks of regeneration , the mean number of unmyelinated axons in autograft and nerve growth factor groups was not significant , but after 12 weeks of implantation , the mean number of unmyelinated axons in autograft group was superior to that of the nerve growth factor group (P<0.01). After 12 weeks of regeneration, microtubular density values of normal and autograft groups were not statistically different. The cristae of axonal mitochondria in experimental groups were parallel with their long dimensions.
Conclusion: These results indicate that the positive effects of nerve growth factors on formation of microtubules and mitochondria may be useful for treating peripheral nerve injuries

The histopathologic effects of sulfur dioxide in mouse liver following the chronic and acute exposure
1
Abstract
Introduction: Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a dangerous and poisonous gas of pollutant air in industrial countries. It is used to produce sulfuric acid and other industrial substances. Since many people are exposed to this gas daily, in this study, we examined the histopathologic effects of gas on the mouse liver in both acute and chronic exposures.
Materlals and Methods: 28 male mice were divided into 4 groups. Group1 (G1) as the control one (not exposed to gas), group2 (G2) which were exposed to high doses of sulfur dioxide (100 ppm( and group3 (G3); group4 (G4)which were exposed to a low dose of sulfur dioxide for 5 minutes for 1 to 3 weeks(20 ppm). Finally, the mice were slaughtered. First, the livers were assessed macroscopically and then a biopsy on the livers was assessed microscopically. At last the data were analyzed statistically.
Findings: The results show that the mean number of Kupffer cells in G2, G3, and G4 significantly increased compared with the control group (9± 1.0, 10± 1.0, 11± 1.2 vs 7± 1.4: p<0.0001). Qualitative observations also show a significantly increase in the rate of liver cells necrosis and deformation of hepatic cords and sinusoids with an increase of inflammatory reactions in the experimental mice.
Conclusion: The present study indicated that the liver can be damaged by the chronic and acute exposure to sulfur dioxide.

Status of environmental factors related to the urban community health of Ilam ,2005-2006
1
Abstract
Introduction: Maintaining a sound and healthy environment along with accomplishing a sustainable development have always been considered by higher policy markers in any country . Therefore based on such a goal , this investigation was theorized and fulfilled to recognize the best possible procedures on how to have a sounder urban environment .
Materials & Methods : In this descriptive – analytic investigation , necessary data and statistical figures were collected and analyzed in accordance with the current indicators of environmental standards . The data questionnaire covered 10 indicators items as follows city – construction and housing , energy consumption style , public green space, transportation and traffic and load , keeping and collecting sheep , air pollution , drinking water , waste water disposal , solid waste disposal , public knowledge about the environment , and current activities to develop green areas.
Findings : It was deduced that 81% of Ilam buildings had been constructed with irresistant mass .90% of all the construction projects did not respond to the standards . About 28.8% of all the studied families ere keeping sheep in their residence . The average annual density of particles floating in Ilam air has been reported as 97.27 micro gram in meter which is almost 1.6 times more than clean – air standards .
Microbial contamination of water is a bit more than its standards limit while water wasting in the distribution network is about 40% - Approximately , 1.4 of the sewage is transferred 180-220 tons daily in Ilam 70% of which is made up of decaying materials .
Conclusion : The findings show that most the investigated indicators prove far from the national and international standards . Thus , providing green belts considering the 12-15 sq- meter standards of green space for the country encouraging an economical culture of energy consumption , improving public transportation , educating citizens through mass media in the adverse consequences of sheep – keepings in urban parts , improving water deposits and healthy usage of them , accelerating the sewage network , keeping citizens informed of hazards caused by infected rubbish and establishing green government topics among schools were of significant point to influence the achievement of such great social goal .
